Morristown and Morris Township Library Acquires New BookScan Station with Patented Book-edge Scanning Design to Protect Rare and Historical Books

Newark, CA (PRWEB) July 8, 2009 — iVina, Incorporated today announced that the Morristown and Morris Township Library in Morristown, New Jersey, is the first library to acquire its patented BookScan Station, a library scanning solution. iVina will be demonstrating the BookScan Station for libraries and municipalities at the American Library Association 2009 Annual Conference in Chicago, IL, July11 – 14, at booth number 929.

iVina’s patented book-edge design is ideally suited for librarians, archivists, historians, genealogists, municipalities, and others who want to preserve rare, historical and reference books by not stretching the book spine to copy a page. The BookScan Station also offers college students as well as patrons of public libraries and municipal records increased productivity by converting books and documents into PDF, Word and Excel files. Scanned pages are automatically stored to a USB drive inserted into the BookScan Station’s USB port. Although the BookScan Station may be connected to a printer, the system’s basic configuration is paper free.

“The BookScan Station is just what the History Center has been looking for – an effective but gentle copier/scanner for use with our rare and old books,” said Susan Gulick, Director of the Morristown and Morris Township Library. “The scanner’s beveled edge protects our precious books while keeping them accessible to researchers. Scanning to the edge of the book spine also produces clear and legible text in the center of the book whereas standard copiers produce illegible blacked-out text. We are excited about what this brand new scanner technology will bring to our patrons.”

The Morristown and Morris Township Library is the first library in the country to purchase the BookScan Station. Established in 1927, the library’s North Jersey History and Genealogy Center attracts students and researchers from across the nation to its exceptional collection of material on New Jersey and early American history. For two winters during the Revolution, Morristown was home to George Washington and his troops, making it the “Military Capital” of the Revolution..

The BookScan Station includes an 11″ x 17″ high-speed flatbed scanner, a 12″ Touchscreen PC, an integrated magnetic stripe card reader and software database to track usage and charges with debit cards. The BookScan Station scans any standard or oversized book, document, magazine or newspaper and automatically crops the image. The BookScan Station also includes ABBYY FineReader, the most intelligent, professional level Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, for creating editable and searchable files from scanned documents, PDF files, and digital camera images.

The Morristown and Morris Township Library acquired the BookScan Station from a value added reseller located in Brooklyn, NY.  Resellers may offer purchase, lease and revenue sharing options. iVina is actively recruiting value-added resellers to support demand in open territories and vertical markets.

About iVina

iVina Corporation designs, develops, markets, and supports innovative document scanning solutions for the library and municipality markets. Its patented BookScan Station features the industry’s first Touchscreen scanning technology integrated with an 11″x 17″ high speed USB2.0 flatbed scanner with glass that comes to the beveled edge of the scanner. This patented book-edge design allows books to lay flat on each page, eliminating the blackened areas of text resulting from the page curvature at the book spine. As a result, the scan produces clearly readable text across the entire page. The book itself is also protected from damage to its spine, thereby reducing repair and replacement costs.

Through its easy-to-use Touchscreen scanning technology, the BookScan Station allows students and library patrons alike to scan books and documents into PDF, Word and Excel files and automatically store these files onto their USB flash drive. Once stored on the USB drive, students can search, retrieve, edit, email, or print those files from their PC. The BookScan Station also includes an integrated magnetic stripe card reader and software database which supports third party pay-per-scan usage and revenue accounting systems.
